10:29 a.m.

ive always heard people talk about an object they call "the sun." "its like a ball of fire in the sky," they said. "it burns your eyes to look at it." "ridiculous!" i scoffed, "no such thing exists." "its true," they insisted. "its so hot it can burn your skin sometimes, but it makes the crops grow and gives us light." "and," they continued in hushed tones, "it always rises in the east and sets in the west." i admit ive always been skeptical of this "sun." the sky where i live is always gray and covered with clouds. until yesterday. i saw that "sun." it was indeed warm and bright. i will never doubt its existence again.

today, i am going to a lecture on the treatment of schizophrenia, then driving to canada. be jealous of me.

the friday five

1. What is your most prized material possession?
um, my car cause its the most expensive thing i own. i went through the buying process all by myself, and i am paying for it all by myself.

2. What item, that you currently own, have you had the longest?
i have a small ceramic piggy bank that my mothers friend made for me before i was born. its painted with flowers and has my name on it; its pretty, and ive always kept it in my bedroom.

3. Are you a packrat?
in the past eight years, i havent lived in one place long enough to become a pack rat. cutting down on ones possessions makes moving a lot easier. besides, i routinely go through my possessions and purge, purge, purge. (this is not to say that i dont own a lot of crap. man, do i ever)

4. Do you prefer a spic-and-span clean house? Or is some clutter necessary to avoid the appearance of a museum?
as much as i would love a spic-and-span apartment (side note: where the hell did the phrase "spic-and-span" originate?), i simply have not the drive nor time to keep things s-&-s. so there is a bit of clutter. it gives the place a lived-in look. it doesnt get too cluttered because i am way too OCD for that.

5. Do the rooms in your house have a theme? Or is it a mixture of knick-knacks here and there?
knick-knacks make me think of my grandmother if i have a theme, its "lets see how much random crap courtney can put together." books, plants, objects from my travels, and art all compete for space in my apartment. it all seems to work, i think.

"what are you guys doing saturday night?...were having a girls night potluck, the vagina monologues, then were going out to party and meeting up with the serbians." -elizabeth tries to involve amy b and i in her random weekend plans
