well. ive only been at work for a half an hour or so, and im already slacking off. i drove back from my boys house this morning. i was originally going to leave yesterday, but when 4.30 rolled around, and we were starting to think about what to make for dinner, i checked my calendar to make sure i had nothing going on at work today, and i decided to stay another night. its always easier for me to leave when he leaves for work in the morning, even though i dont have to leave right then. i rolled into work looking like hell. i feel grungy for being in the car for five hours (damn construction), and im wearing my grungy jeans and a t-shirt i borrowed from the boy, as i had nothing clean to wear. theres hardly anyone here, so thats a good thing. i dont think anyone really noticed my absence. im glad i got to spend extra time with the boy, and i hear that i avoided some nasty traffic yesterday. im sure the border was crazy yesterday.

the rest of my vacation was swell. the boys sister is getting married on saturday, and their mom is going psycho in preparation for it. on wednesday, i went with her to the liquor store, the beer store, and the party store to pick up wedding stuff. we got quite a bit of alcohol, and we got a lot of soda last night, but were still not sure it will be enough. im not so good at estimating these sorts of things, especially as i dont drink much alcohol. i guess well find out how good our estimates are on saturday night.

i had some of the best food ive ever had at dinner on friday night. we decided to try an egyptian restaurant that we always pass by (next door to the restaurant where we had our first dateaww), and i wish we had tried it sooner. we splurged a bit--wine, appetizer, coffee, and dessert in addition to our main dishes--but it was so worth it. we started with cold slices of eggplant with garlic, and i think balsamic vinegar and some other spices. my meal was chicken and some veggies in phyllo with some sort of thick sauce kind of like tomato paste but very flavorful. i had a yummy rice and lentil mixture with it. the boy had chicken curry and fatoosh. we split chocolate mint italian ice cream for dessert. he got a coffee and insisted i try it, even though i normally dont like it. well, i dont know what kind of voodoo coffee they serve there, but i actually liked it. our bellies were very happy when we left the restaurant.

we went to a crazy zoo on saturday. it was in someones backyard. im not kidding. we went to their back door to pay admission. it was a maze of enclosed areas and cages filled with lions, cougars, a bear, foxes, goats, and all sorts of other animals. lots of big cats, though. i felt bad for the animals, because their enclosures could have been better, but they seemed to be pretty well taken care of. it was like going on safari without leaving ontario.

my friends katrina and will were in niagara falls to go bouldering over the weekend. (bouldering is like rock climbing, except you dont have a rope) we were going to drive down there to meet them for dinner, but none of us knew of any place that wasnt a) expensive or b) a chain restaurant, so we didnt meet up after all. the boy and i ended up at a yummy mexican restaurant. at dinner, we decided to go miniature golfing, which i havent done in ages. the course was down by the beach, and it was a really good one (and i learned lots of canadian history from it). we were pretty evenly matched; i won by only 1 point . (are they called points in golf?) since i lost a bet at dinnerhe bet the waitress would come with our food within the next 60 seconds, and she came in 50so i bought us ice cream after we golfed. the whole evening was kind of like a date, and since we hardly do stuff like that anymore, it was a lot of fun.

oh, and i slaughtered my boy in punchbuggy this weekend. i think its because, as a woman, i have excellent peripheral vision. i thank my foremothers who spent their days gathering food and tending the kids.

now i must get to work.
