9:01 a.m.

she who has nothing to say but rambles on anyway returns.

greetings and salutations, my loves.

why is it that i have to act like a sixth grader when i'm in class? why? i whisper, i giggle, i pass notes. i sign the attendance sheet with a purple pen and draw a star next to my name. yet my professor still likes me. huh. (this particular class is "women in international development," and i really do love it. it's full of smart, cool women who know their stuff.) sidenote: kristi and i decided that having master's degrees really doesn't seem all that impressive anymore.

i promised amy i would relate this tale to you all. perhaps it's one of those "you had to be there" stories, but here goes... we were seated next to the salad bar in the restaurant last night. a woman came up and started viciously stirring the green-tinted whipped cream stuff (pistaschio?). she was going at it hardcore...clackit-a clackit-a clackit-a went the spoon against the plastic container. amy and i stopped talking and just stared. i started laughing hysterically and almost spewed my gardenburger all over the booth. clackit-a clackit-a clackit-a. she had such a look of determination on her face. the green stuff got fluffier amd fluffier. was she making mousse? clackit-a clackit-a clackit-a. whenever we thought she'd stopped, she'd start up again. after she was at it for a good 2 or 3 minutes, she spooned some of her creation into a dish and left. every subsequent time she'd come back up to the salad bar, we'd watch her with anticipation to see what else she'd do. some restaurants are just really good for people-watching, or "cultural studies," as i like to call it.

now, shoo, all of you...you're distracting me from writing a presentation.
