amy and i should not have our own cooking show. well, maybe we could, but it might be more of a comedy or a "what not to do" show. we decided to make chicken on the grill last night for din, with salad and bread. okay. slice the bread, easy. open the bag of salad and dump it in a bowl, easy. chop up some extra veggies for me, still good there. then came the chicken. i am not a big meat-eater or meat-cooker, so i really don't know what to do with the stuff. i had bought some thin breast filets that were just about ready to go, but they had some gross-looking fat and other stuff on them (i don't like my meat to look like what it used to be). so i mangled it a bit trying to cut the nastiness off. we decided to grill it with melted lemon-herb butter brushed on. fine. except the chicken stuck to the grill and the melted butter caused flames to shoot up whenever it dripped off. in the end, the chicken didn't look very pretty, but you know, it tasted pretty good. i am proud of our culinary attempt.

i brought my cat over to amy's house, too, last night, so kitty could get used to the place and to see how she was around amy's cats. kitty's going to be a houseguest at amy's while i'm in poland. well, kitty puked in her carrier on the way over and peed in it on the way back, but she did really well at amy's. she used her manners, except when she repeatedly tried to eat the plants, and made herself at home. i feel better about leaving her now. i think kitty likes amy's house better than mine.

i had to run some work errands this morning, so i stopped to see amy b, and we got smoothies with paper umbrellas in them. smoothies are perfect on a day like this. it's too hot to really eat, and smoothies are so cool and lovely. on my way back to my office, a kid stopped me and asked me if i had a summer job. i just laughed in his face and said, "i have a job." i don't feel so bad; amy b got asked to a sweet sixteen party yesterday.

yesterday, i found out that my thesis was due last week. oops. i have a million changes to do on it, and it's really stressing me out.

soon it will be all over
